UnixLib is the default run-time library used by GCCSDK (the RISC OS port of GCC). It was originally written by Huw Rogers, but has since incorporated contributions from many other programmers.

In addition to the facilities required to support the C programming lanaguage, UnixLib provides most of the functions that a program would expect to find on a system running UNIX (or a UNIX-like operating system such as GNU/Linux). Because many Open Source programs assume that these are available this makes UnixLib particularly suitable for porting such programs to RISC OS, but the features it provides can be equally useful when writing new code.

Using UnixLib describes in detail how UnixLib goes beyond the capabilities of a standard C library, with particular emphasis on how UNIX-like capabilities have been adapted to and implemented within the RISC OS environment. It is aimed at intermediate-level programmers who have experience of C and RISC OS (but not necessarily of UNIX).

My thanks to the many programmers who have helped to develop UnixLib, without whom neither this book nor most of my other projects would have been possible.
